Jabez Love's son-in-law says production of all Love tractors ceased in 1954, though some inventory remained untouched for several years. Paul's cousin, Chuck Prillwitz, took six row crop Loves and six orchard Loves on consignment in 1957, including a 1954 Love he sold to his brother, Henry. This is the machine that Paul Zoschke eventually bought. The orchard tractors all sold, but the row crops did not.
Numbers regarding Love tractors are unclear. Judging by serial numbers on Paul's earlier Loves, at least 133 were built by 1937 (serial no. 37-0-133,) and a total of 210 by 1939 (serial no. 39-0-210), though it's possible these numbers could refer to the actual total built during that year. Other than those bits of information about how many were built, history is silent. “Jabez Love made far fewer orchard tractors than he did of the row crops,” Paul says.
“Jabez Love was very opportunistic and flexible in finding the cheapest way to build everything,” Paul says, “so there is a considerable amount of variation in his tractors. But as to how many of them were built, nobody knows.”
