It is made of 24-gauge galvanized metal. The seams are crimped and soldered. It measures 8 inches in diameter, 8 inches deep. It also has two 12-inch tubes.

We received several answers for this piece. Among them: Cargo hook, says Mike Intlekofer, Bellevue, Wash. Other theories: Chain "slip" hook, available in two sizes for different sizes of chain, used to vary chain length; "banjo" hook probably used with a three- or four-leg chain sling to lift steel plates at a factory; rope hook for a hay barn rope used to operate or tie off a hay trolley and fork pulley or sling. It is equipped with a Treet single-edge razor blade that moves up and down. It is marked "C.L. Westbrook Co., Ayden, N.C. 28513 Pat. Pend." It measures 4-1/2 inches long. The back is 2 inches wide. It could be held on a pan or a bowl with two screws.

It measures about 3-1/2 inches square with double tracks cut through. At the center where the tracks cross, a gear protrudes down and could be engaged. The gear also protrudes from the top. The back has a higher area through the center with a 1- by 2-inch metal block in the middle attached with three screws at each end.
