Signing up for great prizes in our booth at the Old Threshers Reunion

September was a whirlwind tour of shows and events for me. It’s been a busy month so here are just a few highlights.

At the Old Thresher’s Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, over Labor Day weekend we (Farm Collector and Gas Engine Magazine) set up a booth every year. We get to renew subscriptions of faithful readers and meet many new subscribers as well. Several of our advertisers graciously donate prizes for the drawings in the tent. Everyone loves to win prizes! The winners are listed in the December issues of Farm Collector and Gas Engine Magazine.

The daily parade fills the grandstands with spectators. There’s a new steam exhibit on the grounds this year, with lots of educational and interesting displays, like a cutaway model of a steam engine and how it works, and some interactive models for the kids to, well, interact with!

This was put together by many people, but Lennis Moore of the Midwest Old Threshers was very instrumental in making this happen. A must-see when you visit the show.

Next, September 9 through 11 was the first annual John Deere Fall Fest put on by the Cedar Valley Tech Works in Waterloo, Iowa.

Mary Swehla of John Deere reports that there were an estimated 16,000 to 18,000 people over the three day period in attendance. Complete with a tractor ride with 50 participants, a memorabilia auction by Kurt Aumann and Aumann Auctions, vendors, tractors on display, a tour at Tech Works with 329 visitors and a banquet. I bet there will be a 2nd annual show.
