Museum-Quality Mower Collection Trains Spotlight on Horse-Drawn Era – A South Dakota man spends more than 20 years collecting more than 100 horse-drawn mowers in a rainbow of colors, from Adriances to John Deeres – all carefully researched and restored.
Restoration of 1909 Lang & Button Engine Launches New Focus for Club – A steam engine club buys and restores a one-of-a-kind Lang & Button engine – which appears in its club logo and was made in their home state of New York. The restored engine debuted at the club’s Pageant of Steam last August, providing power for several demonstrations.
Wyoming Collector Restores Water Well Drill Dating to 1870s – While looking through a deceased collector’s hoard of old iron, a Wyoming man discovers remnants of what he believes is a Kelly & Tannyhill Co. water well drill, which he took home and restored.
Ferguson and Massey-Ferguson Tractors Nearly Identical – A Minnesota man restores his family’s 1956 Ferguson 40 Utility tractor to original condition, learning along the way that the 1956 Massey-Harris 50 Utility tractor that he later bought is almost identical – as is the Massey Ferguson 50. When Massey-Harris bought out Harry Ferguson Inc. in 1953, the company produced dual product lines.
Promising Grain Belt Tractor Swamped by Stiff Competition – Although the company received a lot of hype, Grain Belt Co. of Minneapolis never broke through the increasingly competitive small-tractor market of pre-1920. Little is known about the company, but estimates put total production at less than 100 tractors over a four-year production time.
