This old farm tool is a total of 14 inches wide. The bar where the teeth/forks attach to the bar to the tip is 4-1/2 inches. Each handle is marked "Pat Pending."

Looks like a sickle but I don't see 2 rows of knives and can't see the mechanism for sawing between the knives. Should oscillate. Also is very narrow for harvesting of hay crops. I drove tractor using mowers using the blades pictured, or similar; but they cut a swath of 6 feet or more.

Early mowing machine, used for hay or grain. Originally had wheels and was pulled by 2 horses, and the mechanism moved the blade from left to right to cut.
