Heartland Acres Agribition Center in Independence, IA receives FFA award for Loyalty and Dedication from the students of the Southeast Polk FFA Chapter at their 50 year Anniversary, Saturday, May 10, 2014. Receiving the award is Craig Johnson, Heartland Acres Executive Director.
Students from the Southeast Polk FFA Chapter awarded Heartland Acres with a plaque for loyalty and dedication to their chapter. The award was presented during the awards banquet celebrating Southeast Polk FFA’s 50 year Anniversary. FFA students gave the award to Heartland Acres for continually involving the chapter with the responsibilities of delivering and caring for animals during the annual appearance on Iowa Public Television.
“Animals are part of the educational experience of the story being told at Heartland Acres Agribtion Center and it just made sense that if we were going to talk about agriculture we should include animals”, commented Craig Johnson, Executive Director at the campus in Independence. With the encouragement of Dan Wardell at Iowa Public Television and their staff, Heartland Acres along with the Southeast Polk FFA students and their parents have collaborated for the past few years in bringing farm animals to the IPTV studio as part of the annual televised program. SE Polk Chapter advisor Matt Eddy also said, “Being part of a complete learning experience involves the use of many sources of information and Heartland Acres serves that function.”
Education and entertainment are all part of the visitor experience at Heartland Acres. Our agricultural heritage comes to life through the many displays and hands-on exhibits educating visitors about agriculture.
