Heartland Acres Agribition Center Celebrates Five Year Anniversary

HeartlandAcres Museum
Heartland Acres Agribition Center makes plans to mark their five-year anniversary starting Monday, May 7, 2012.

Planning for an agricultural museum and event center began in 2003 with a group of local supporters from Independence.  After several years of planning, designing, fundraising, and building, the campus was opened for business in May of 2007.

Initial funding came from many individuals as well as City of Independence, Buchanan County, Vision Iowa and a variety of corporations.  Today the facility is funded through gate receipts to the museum, event rental, grants and donations.  Fundraising continues to support and enhance the campus and to bring in new displays and fund educational initiatives.  The displays and exhibits are ever-changing and the campus continues to grow.  Plans for additional buildings and events are in the works.

Today the campus is busy with museum visitors and hosting many private events. Special events are held as often as space and time allow.  Agricultural tourism remains strong and the story of agriculture is always changing and never ending.

The 200,000 guest will be greeted this season either during a tour of the museum or during a reception or conference at the campus.  Heartland Acres has entertained visitors from Mongolia, South Africa, Russia, Australia, England, Germany and many other foreign countries.  Motor coach tours, school children on field trips and families continue to seek Heartland Acres as a destination for entertainment and education.
