Will Batty's fully restored 1924 3 HP Stover KB tagged by the T. Eaton Co.
An auction's sale bill is a great piece of bait for the unassuming collector. More times than not, your interest is piqued by an item that you never actually win, and instead, you walk away with several items you never intended on buying. Of course, sometimes, that's not so bad. Case in point is Will Batty's 1924 3 HP Stover KB tagged by the T. Eaton Co.
Will bought the engine at an auction about three hours from his home in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan back in 2007. And you may have already guessed that the Stover wasn't even on his radar when he looked at the sale bill. Instead, he was aiming for a 1-1/2 HP Witte that quickly fell out of his reach. So, like any good collector wanting to make the most of his 6-hour-round-trip drive, he let his eyes wander. "The 3 HP Stover KB was tagged with a T. Eaton tag, and was torn apart with some parts in the water hopper, some in a box and some others scattered about on the trailer," says Will. "But it looked to me that all the important parts were there. I don’t know what it was about the Stover, but it had me very intrigued."
The rest is history. Will bought the Stover, gave it a full restoration and couldn't be happier. Here's a video Will shot of the restored engine running:
