 Swamp Shoes

I saw the photo of the marsh shoes in the August 2013 issue of Farm Collector. I have two sets of what they call “swamp” shoes that I bought in 1961 in Portage, Wis. All I know about them is they used them on the horses’ front hooves in the swamps of Ohio. How old do you think they are?

We moved to Portage in about 1965.Dad broke up a mile sq marsh into mint farm. In Mi, his dad used these marsh shoes on the horses doing field work in the mint and onions. My grandfather and great-grandfather broke up the marsh in Grant, Mi in early teens of 1900. Hope you still have the swamp (marsh) shoes!!
