In the October/November 2013 issue of Gas Engine Magazine, Woody Sins reports on his European antique gas engine vacation he went on with fellow enthusiast Wayne Grenning in 2013. The two made the rounds in Europe: They started at the 25th anniversary Internationale Stationaire Motorenshow Nuenen in the Netherlands, viewed private collections in the Netherlands, got access to the reserves at the Museé des Arts et Métiers in Paris and attended a special event at the Technikum at Deutz AG in Cologne, Germany. Luckily for us, Wayne captured many of the engines they saw on video. You can see the whole collection on his YouTube channel. We've included some of our favorites below.
The Crossley 2 HP "piano base" slide-valve engine from the Anson Engine Museum in England.
A Hille inverted flame ignition slide-valve at Nuenen.
Hand-starting the twin slide-valve made in Liege, Belgium by Fetu-Defize & Cie.
Starting the twin-cylinder flame ignition slide-valve 4 HP electric lighting Deutz at the Technikum.
Starting up the oldest 4-cycle Deutz engine at the Technikum.
There are many more videos on Wayne's channel. Be sure to check them out!
