The restored fencerow find is regularly set up to pull on a Baker fan
The Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, is always held over Labor Day weekend, and John Bier and his son, Brad, Palmyra, Mo., were there with their 1920 Advance-Rumely Universal 20 HP, the feature steam engine for the 2006 show.
John found the engine in a fencerow, a fallen tree obscuring it from view. “Nobody knew it was there,” Brad says. According to John, light restoration and boiler work put it back in working order. It will run 150 psi and John regularly pulls it on a Baker fan. “If you listen when the engine’s under pull, it has a sound all its own,” John says. “When an Advance-Rumely is running, it draws a crowd.”
Look for the engine at this year’s show, Aug. 30-Sept. 3, 2007.
