Hi Ladies!

Hasn’t this been a nice summer? It has been for us, and
surely hope it has for each of you.

I know you are very busy just now with all of your canning,
freezing or preserving. Aren’t you?

We didn’t have a garden so I’m not kept ‘on the
move’ with those chores, but I’m not idle. Elmer and Davie
are getting ready to go to I11. and Iowa, plus Marsha getting ready
for college.

I attended a one day workshop this week for teachers so I too am
planning to start my regular routine on the eighth of

We had a delightful three day journey to Williamsburg, Va. It
was most interesting to see where and how our forefathers lived. We
enjoyed being served a meal by young students from William and Mary
College who were dressed in knee breeches, long white stockings,
cotton coats, each a different color, and white shirts that had
ruffles at the neck and wrist. They tied huge white napkins about
the patrons necks if so desired. The silverware was pewter. The
hostesses to dinning room was also garbbed in colonial

We enjoy antiques as you’re already read in past issues, so
the lovely old big furnished with pieces of that day really
intrigued us.

The old church looks quite differently than our churches today
in the interior.

The colonial militia gave a drill on the lawn of the magazine
accompanied by fife and drum. If you ever visit there don’t
miss the play called ‘The Founders’ given in the evening at
the outdoor theater depicting the history of Williamsburg and its

Later in summer we had the privilege of visiting for the first
time the Steam Engine Show at Canandaigua, N.Y. The drive is
beautiful up in that part of country which surrounds the Finger
Lakes. It was a wonderful show. Everyone was so hospitable to us.,
especially Mr. Dayton Nickols and his wife. We were sorry we had to
leave for Elmer had to preach on Sunday. Perhaps next year we can
stay for the entire time.

The joy of meeting old friends and making new ones has increased
with me through the years at the Reunions.

I must confess when I was first married I attended them only to
make my hubby happy, but since ten years has passed I two can
anticipate with enthusiasm our journies here and yonder. Perhaps
not for quite the same reason as my husband’s but we women have
an enjoyable time exchanging ideas and visiting together.

As close as we are to Williams Grove folks I don’t get to
see them only at Reunions. It’s a pleasure to know our
neighbors better because they too were at some of those we attended
this summer.

The Stewartstown Reunion was another day of joy for us. Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Glessner, as in the past several years, journeyed there
with us.

We’ve ended our summer perfectly by having Charles, Eurdora,
and Verda Jane Idol from North Carolina, steam engine friends,
spend time with us before the very successful Kintzer show.

Oh with all these wonderful experiences the Good Man gave me I
should surely be ready for those dear little 3rd graders in another

May you be as happy with your chores as I.
