The Farm Shop 650 Herbert St., P.O. Box 728 Ferndale, California
If you missed 1993’s Fortuna Redwood Autorama, you
definitely do not want to miss it in 1994.
Held at Rohner Park, in Fortuna, California, the Autorama offers
a wide variety of activities and events throughout the weekend:
crafts, antiques, swap meet, car show, car cruising, engine gas-up,
antique tractor and farm equipment show, working draft horses and
mules, and antique tractor pulls.
Over 600 custom, classic and antique cars lined the streets of
Fortuna for the admiration of car lovers. Craft and antique shows
gave the ladies something to do and treasures to find. And then
there were the tractor and engine fans they were in abundance in
the park, with exhibitors coming from all over California and
Oregon. Several branches of the EDGE&TA were represented. Among
the displays were a 12 HP International engine mounted on a truck,
a 9 HP Waterloo Boy pumping water, and various other engines
pumping water, grinding corn, or just doing nothing at all but
making that popping noise that seems to be enjoyed by so many
people. Murphy Anderson, of Healdsburg, California, comes every
year to delight the crowds with his miniature fire truck and
high-wheeled bicycle, run by a Maytag engine.
A variety of antique tractors and crawlers, 48 in all, were
displayed. These included models of Allis Chalmers, International,
Case, John Deere and more. Some of the highlights include Andrew
John Deere GP running a three-wire 1928 John Deere hay press,
and Laurence Hindley’s 1936 McCormick Deering 10-20 orchard
tractor thrashing wheat with Scott and Andrew Wilson’s 1930
McCormick Deering threshing machine. Laurence Hindley also brought
his John Deere two-wire hay press, which was run by a John Deere AR
owned by Joe Renner, of Loleta. Antique tractor pulls were a new
event in the 1993 Autorama and provided fun for all, spectators and
proud tractor owners alike. Most cannot wait until this year to
beef-up their tractors and try again. The 1994 pull will also offer
pedal tractor pulls for children.
July 23 and 24 are the dates for the 1994 show. Food, fun and
sun are available in abundance. The show is free to exhibitors and
