Secretary, Illinois Threshermen’s Jubilee Colchester,
Illinois
The Illinois Threshermen’s Jubilee was held at the Neal
McClure farm near Colchester, Illinois, on July 27, 28 and 29. The
attendance exceeded our expectations and it was estimated that
between six and seven thousand persons enjoyed the exhibition.
The 23 steamers owned and permanently located here were all in
operation along with four grain separators. The program consisted
of threshing rye and oats, sawing lumber, hill climbing and our
friend Bill Sater of Mt. Pleasant sent us his prony brake and he
and Pete Bucher of Fairfield Iowa, operated the outfit.
This is the fourth reunion held here and we can truthfully state
that the interest has increased every year. The additions to the
collection of steamers this season included a Springfield Steam
Roller, a Jumbo, Kitten and two single and one double
Keck-Gonnerman’s. There has been some demand for these steamers
to do threshing at county fairs, drive bridge piling and used in
centennial parades and some are to be loaned to other reunions for
exhibition.
