Medina County Antique Power Association Tries for New Show Date

By Staff

This year the Medina County Antique Power Association, Inc. has
moved our 9th annual antique power show from Memorial Day to the
last weekend in August. Hopefully, the weather will be better and
we will be able to have more activities.

This year will be our fourth annual tractor pull. The classic
class (1942-1953) will pull on Saturday afternoon while the antique
class (up to 1941) will pull on Saturday evening, last year’s
winners of the classic pull were: class ILinda Berger, class
IIRobert Krecic, class IIIJim Fetty. The winners of the antique
pull were: class IEd Kalina, class IIRandy Hall, class IIITom
Lethco. The steam class winner was Clyde Whitmore. All winners
received a wooden plaque.

At the 1983 show, there were 172 exhibitors displaying 5 steam
traction engines, 73 gas tractors, 163 gas engines, 7 homemade
scale-model steam engines, 1 homemade steam popcorn wagon, 3
scale-model power plants, 1 scale-model water plant and 13 antique
cars. Ralph Weidman even brought his working scale-model homemade
engines made from poison ivy vine. During the show, the members
were able to thresh and bale. Damp weather made it impossible to
grind with the club’s stone Buhr Mill.

This year’s show promises to be bigger and better. Weather
permitting, we plan to thresh and grind. Also, we should have
apples to press cider. Other various events have been planned such
as tractor races and contests, a skillet throwing contest for the
ladies and possibly a tobacco spitting contest. Flea markets and
arts/crafts are also welcome. There will be a pancake breakfast on
Saturday morning.

Camping is available for exhibitors and arts/crafts. The Medina
County Fairgrounds will be open for early set-up Friday afternoon
and evening.

We say ‘Thank you’ to all our friends and exhibitors
from previous years and hope to make more new friends this year.
Come join us for a weekend of soot, noise and fun on August 25 and
26, 1984, at the Medina County Fairgrounds.
