The 29th annual Nowthen Threshing Show was held August 20, 21 and 22, 1999, at Nowthen, Minnesota. Our 1999 show featured the Fordson and Briggs & Stratton.
The club concluded another great year with attendance reaching over 4,000. Club members along with additional exhibitors hosted an experience for all attending. Wherever you went on the 54-acre show grounds you experienced something replicating the decades of 1890-1930.
A Parade of Power at 2:00 p.m. was featured each day. Friday evening's attraction was an antique tractor pull with 84 hooks, antique and classic classes with eleven various weight classes.
Each morning a pancake breakfast was available to help us start the day. Sunday morning church services provided worship, music and fellowship. Sunday afternoon the kids enjoyed a Kiddie Tractor Pull with 95 entries. There was live music and square dancing.
Continuous running demonstrations include old time threshing, plowing with oxen from the Oliver H., Kelley Farm of the Minnesota Historical Society, corn shelling and grinding feed.
The sawmill, shingle mill and lathe mill ran, providing demonstrations as well as producing materials for many of our building projects. The Craft Building featured quilting, weaving, pottery and spinning exhibits.
Our Blacksmith Shop was staffed by the Metal Smith's Guild, who worked with metals, using century old skills and equipment.
Numerous pieces of farm equipment were displayed, including gas engines, steam engines, tractors and small farm equipment.
Our small town also consists of the Prairie Peddler newspaper, general store, log house, barn and church, which were staffed and functional.
Antique cars and trucks included two fire trucks donated by St. Michael and Oak Grove Fire Departments. Our Century Flyer train ran continuously to allow visitors to ride. A Worthington stationary steamer and diesel Fairbanks generator were displayed. The flea market was enjoyed by shoppers.
