It seems we finally stumped readers with the ‘mystery’
engine featured in the May/June edition of Steam Traction.
We’re still waiting for someone to identify the engine, which
was apparently being unloaded from a rail car when the photo was

This month’s mystery engine comes, as usual, courtesy of
JohnSpalding, 112 Carriage
Place, Hendersonville, TN 37035 ( There’s
no information on the photograph telling when or where the picture
was taken, or what the engine is.

We wish we could see what the engine is belted to, but judging
by the mud built up on the rear drivers and front wheels, this
engine saw its fair share of work. We’ll note the engineer
looks well-satisfied with his machine.
