The Golden Roll

| May/June 1999

Submitted by Michigan Steam Engine and Threshers Club.

We at Michigan Steam Engine and Threshers Club are very sorry to report the loss of one of our members, JOHN HARTEN. It is especially sad when it is a young member. John lost his life in a hunting accident last fail.

John started out by restoring and showing antique tractors. Then he also got interested in steam. He pursued this interest and purchased an engine which he restored and exhibited at our show. He did a tremendous amount of work on the engine. He had parts cast to make the engine authentic. Even though he seemed to pay more attention to steam, he did not lose interest in his tractors. He just put them on the back burner for a while.

John was very active in the club. He was willing to help with club activities, and he also served as secretary for a couple of years.

We will miss him, his laughter and his wonderful personality, and we shall not forget him. Our loss is not nearly as great as the loss his wife suffers. We all wish her God's love and peace in finding strength and healing.
