This old farm tool's arched piece measures about 11 inches wide. The chains are 8 inches long. It appears to be hand-forged.

It's almost undoubtedly a gambrel stick. Cut slits behind the hamstrings of a hog, stick the bars on the end of the chain through and haul the pig up tail first.
