KNEADER, WORKER … EITHER WAY, IT LOOKS LIKE WORK

The July issue of Farm Collector, there is a picture of a “bread kneader.” I have one just like it, only it is a butter worker! Mine still has the original writing: “Reid’s No. 4 Original Phila. Butter Worker. Manufactured by Chester Dairy Supply Co., Chester, Pa. Patent March 23, 1875.”

After butter is churned, it must be worked to remove the whey. Notice the hole in the far left corner of the picture. That is to let the whey run out. Mine has two short feet on the near side, to provide a tilt to encourage that process. –Herbert Wessel
