This is a photo of my great-great-grandpa’s threshing outfit. The notes my grandpa (Don Sauer) wrote on the back of the original say he believes the steam engine is a Gaar-Scott. The man standing on the threshing machine is my great-great-grandpa, Louis Sauer. I’m not sure of the photo’s date but given Louis’ age and that of the engine and threshing machine, I would guess it was taken in the 1880s. The picture was probably taken somewhere near Quasqueton, Iowa. Grandpa also wrote that Louis never drove the Gaar-Scott steam engine but always moved it from job to job with horses as he didn’t want to wear out the gearing. When he traded it in, the gearing was like new. Any help in identifying the engine or machine would be appreciated.
