A steam threshing show was held September 17, 1978, on the late
Harry Landwehr farm, 3 miles west of Waukomis, Oklahoma, by Bob
Roades and Phillip Semrad, both of Waukomis. Pete Rose and son, of
Garber, Oklahoma were threshing wheat most of the day with a 10
horse Rumely steam tractor. Also, their 16 HP Oil Pull tractor was
Heinie Bomhoff and son, from Calumet, Oklahoma, and Jake Story
and son, from Yucon, Oklahoma, each had their small steam tractors
in action throughout the day. There were also several old timers
there with some old time gas engines and old machinery on display
and in action.
Sam Nusz from Enid, Oklahoma, was doing the announcing on the
public address system. The Waukomis Band Boosters Club were kept
busy at the concession stand selling food and cold drinks. The
turnout was good considering the short time the sponsors had in
getting it advertised. The weather was very hot and windy.
Horse plowing was a feature during the afternoon. Everyone
enjoyed the show very much. Many people brought along their cameras
and tape recorders.
According to Bob Roades, next year the show will be much bigger
with a lot more machinery and engines in action, also more activity
and contests.
Watch for the 1979 show dates.
