The cartoon in the October issue (Farm Collector,
October 2006, page 2) is very true. I lived at a place for years
that had a party line. Our ring was two longs and a short. One
time, a neighbor down the road mowed one wire off. He told the
repairman, and later asked if he had fixed it. The repairman said
“Yes, I spliced it with grapevine.”
