In my museum I have a 1914 Deere-Van Brunt Model F combination drill with wooden wheels. The drill has three compartments: one was used to drill grass seed, another was used to drill grain, and the third compartment was used for fertilizer. There is no evidence that either lime or nitrogen were ever used in the fertilizer compartment.
Many visitors to the museum have asked, “What was the fertilizer that was used in the fertilizer compartment in 1914?” I can’t answer the question: I need help!
