The Old Time Threshers and Sawmill Operators Show was held
recently Aug. 17-20 on the James Whitbey farm at Carroll &
Johnson Roads, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
This was the 22nd year for the show. As in previous years there
were special attractions; steam engines, plowing, sawmill, veneer
engines & tractors, steam locomobile, century old grain reaper
pulled by steam driven tractor. A grain cycle, grain craddle, grain
reaper, grain binder, grain combine were all in operation. A
demonstration of stuffing a straw tick was done each day. A famous
old church service was held on Sunday morning. Elkart 4-H Saddle
Club consisting of 21 horses attended church services also. A
parade of equipment took place every day at 5:00. Meals were served
under the Wesley Chapel Church Tent every day by the members,
friends, & neighbors.
Many memories were recalled by some of the old timers in the
crowds as they watched exhibitions.
There was also Rummage-Flea Market of interest to both men and
women. Plans are now under way for the 23rd show for next mid
August 1973.
