Taking a ride on the five-eights scale model of a 1918 Baldwin
Steam Locomotive offers a ride into the past. The narrow guage
locomotive, engineered by Dane Hutcherson and Jim Vogt, circles the
entire show grounds and offers a general overview of all activities
and exhibits.
One then needs to do some walking to experience a closer view of
exhibits and activities. The flag raising is accompanied by the
singing of the National Anthem plus roaring cannons and gun
salutes. Airplanes pass over and radio controlled airplanes offer a
show for your enjoyment. The many craft booths and concessions can
satisfy your curiosity for browsing or filling up that empty
feeling.
Mr. Zimmerman of Sedgewick, KS skillfully operates the
Worthington steam powered air compressor.
The newest attraction this past year was the addition of a 1894
Herschell Spillman Steam Carousel. Jerry Ottaway of Wichita ownes
this magnificent piece of equipment. Jerry, along with his dad,
Herb Ottaway, and son Scott spent many, many hours this past year
getting this carousel into fully functional operation. The
beautiful band organ held many people spellbound as the snare drum,
bass drum, cymbals and brass pipe played many memorable tunes.
To mention all people or all exhibits would be impossible. The
photos will hopefully provide more insight. Many people in our
community as well as from great distances assist with our annual
Labor Day weekend show. We thank them all and appreciate the help
and support so very much.
