A special attraction at the Sioux County Youth Fair this year
which brought back memories of yesteryear was this huge Advance
steamer, being operated by Joe Reinders, 70, of Orange City, and
the large, attached separator, widely used 30 years ago and
previous, for threshing oats, wheat, previously cut with a binder
and shocked.
The big steamer has 16 h.p. on the drawbar and 50 horsepower on
the belt.
It is owned by Gary and John Reinders, Dr. M. Vander Maaten and
Ben Bonnema. The machine was actually used this summer to thresh a
field of oats near Orange City.
