The 10th annual Blanchard Millpond Steam and Gas Show is now
over, and what a great show it was! The weather was outstanding for
all three days, August 23-25, 1996.
A saw mill that was loaned to our show by the Jerry Paulson
family worked very well, and it will be there for years to come
This year we featured Cockshutt and Co-op tractors and Economy
engines, but there was a good showing of tractors of all brands.
The gas engine area had a large turnout of engine and gas engine
models.
On Friday afternoon we had visitors from one of the adult foster
homes in Shepherd, and they were admitted free of charge. The
children’s games, again this year, were very popular.
Our Friday night horse pull is always a crowd pleaser, and this
year was no exception.
Steam engines were demonstrating on the thrashing machine and
the saw mill. On Saturday the Pine River Methodist Church again put
on their delicious chicken barbecue, and Sunday the hog roast was
offered by the Millbrook/Rolland Fire Department. They were both
sold out in a very short time, because the food is always so
good.
The tractor pulls went very smoothly and had a good turnout both
days, with pullers coming from a wide area of Michigan. New this
year was our Saturday night entertainment which featured gospel and
country singing by a local group. We hope this will become a
regular event in our show.
Thanks to all who helped us put on the 1996 show, and to
everyone who came to exhibit their machinery. The exhibitors put a
lot of time and money into finding and restoring the steam engines,
gas engines and antique tractors. Without them there would be no
Blanchard Millpond Steam and Gas Show.
The 1997 show will be August 22-24, so mark your calendar and
bring all your friends and relatives to enjoy yourself in our small
but delightful community.
