Guide To Railways in Australia
A softbound book known for short as Darts, and for long as
Directory of Australian Railways and Tramway Societies, is now
available in America through Stemgas.
Australia and New Zealand are covered. Dozens of societies are
described, as to gauge of track, history, condition of track,
title and address, to write to or call for further information.
Many illustrations are included… everything from models to
steam traction engines to trolley cars to trains and
passengers.
The book is of great value to anyone who wants up-to -date
information, as well as for record purposes. This issue came out in
1982, and we presume more will follow.
All organizations listed are grouped by gauge in an index, from
2 inches through 24.
Throughout, in the articles about the groups, it is evident that
the members have preserved a tremendous number of transportation
lines that would otherwise have vanished. That goes for equipment
as well… not only in transportation but also in farming, model
and model-building and other endeavors. Some also emphasize the
recording of related history.
Most are open to the public and many offer excursions.
Collectors everywhere will want to put this book in their
libraries.
