Eyes of the News-Herald (Kansas) classified advertising manager
popped when he ran across the order for the following ‘Help
Wanted’ ad in the Sunday paper.
‘Help by steam thresherman to refuel a steam traction
engine.’
‘Are they still using those old threshers?’ asked the ad
man.
Investigation disclosed the ad was placed by R. D. Yoder of
Yoder, who collects antique engines. He wants help in re-fueling an
18 horse Avery double cylinder under mount locomotive type steam
traction engine, he said, so it will be ready for display at the
Antique Engine Convention scheduled Aug. 14, 15 and 16 at
Wichita’s Joy land Park.
Nope, it isn’t taking part in the harvest.
