This engine is a 1906 MacDonald steam traction engine, built by
MacDonald Manufacturing Co., Stratford, Ontario. The engine is
rated 18 HP and is an 8 x 10 engine of rear mounted design.
MacDonald engines were built in Canada under license by A. D. Baker
Co. of Swainton, Ohio.
The early MacDonald’s were almost identical to the same
differences. This engine is serial #8. Probably fewer than 500
MacDonald engines were built and only six are known to remain
today.
They were built in 18, 20, 22 and 25 HP sizes. They feature
water bottom boilers on the small sizes.
This engine is owned by John Hoover and sons of Box 135,
