Last year, on a trip to Canada, Gerry Lestz happened to come
across this Montmagny portable engine, manufactured by La Cie.
Mfre. de Montmagny Ltee., of Montmagny, Quebec. We contacted Peter
Ledwith of the Ontario Agricultural Museum, and he let us know that
there was a similar engine in the Reynolds-Alberta Museum in
Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
John Kvill of the Reynolds-Alberta Museum identified this
portable as one similar to the one in the Museum’s collection
and said they were evidently built about 1916 or 1917. He
wrote:
‘We have very little information on La Cie Montmagny Ltee
other than they were one of the dozens of small manufacturers
operating in Canada at that time. Our researcher says that it is
very likely that very few of these engines were built, possibly as
few as fifteen or twenty.’
Possibly some of our readers can add some more information if
so, let us know!
