Roland Kelley, New Carlisle, Indiana 46552 sent this picture of
himself and his wife Margaret. They have been married over 48 years
and he was running steam engines at the time of their marriage.
‘My engine is a M Rumely 20-60 HP, double cylinder,
manufactured in LaPorte, Indiana about 1916.’ LaPorte is about
ten miles from the Kelley home. ‘I have run many makes of
Rumely and the Advance Rumely.
This was taken in 1962. It is a Best steamer at the village of
Jean, Nevada. This engine has been on display for many years just a
few miles West of Las Vegas. I feel that this steamer may have been
seen by more people than any other because of its location.
Dan Neely, of Box 651, Justin, Texas 76247 sent us this picture
of a 110 Advance Rumely which he says was used to break ground and
pull a McCormick thresher over sixty years ago in the Justin area.
Neely was told that the engine was originally donated to Texas A
& M University by Rumely, and later bought by a Mr. Lee, who
used it until he replaced it with an Avery gas tractor.
