LAWMAKER RIDES WITH THE WOOL
Montana sheep rancher and state legislator George W. Burt and
two of his children are shown hitching a ride behind their steam
traction engine shortly after 1900. The engine is hauling 65 sacks
of wool from the Burt ranch at O’Fallon Creek to the North
Pacific Railway depot at Terry, Montana. (Courtesy of Montana
Historical Society). The engine is identified as a Reeves by Wilmer
J. Eshleman, Lancaster, PA, our steam consultant. –Ed
