The Rough and Tumble Engineers, of Kinzers, Pennsylvania
received a big article from the New York Times in advance of their
30th annual reunion in the Sunday issue of August 6.
Melissa Sutphen, a New York writer, put the article together and
took all the five big pictures that appeared with it. Her research
started several years ago and she did a lot of it at Kinzers to
It was really a plug for all the shows, thresheres and similar
events throughout the country, and listed times and places for a
dozen of them.
Title of the article was, ‘Gangway, the Threshers Are
Coming.’ It went into the history of threshing, and then told
of today’s reunions.
Among the Rough and Tumble people mentioned in the article were
Lorena Miller, who plays the Getz Brothers’ steam calliope;
Paul Stoltzfoos with his Kitten engine; Geri George Derr, Richie
Duncan, Johnny Mast, Wilmer J. Eshleman, Lloyd Grubb and Dennis
Hornberger.
The article also made note of I.M.A. and our annual Steam and
Gas Show Directory, and we deeply appreciate that.
